Car Repair 4.0 offers opportunities for …

Car Repair Shops

The automotive industry, with approximately 440,000 employees, is undergoing structural change. Just like other industries, the car repair sector is also facing the major challenges of digitalisation, electromobility, sustainability and securing skilled labour. The Car Repair 4.0 project shows SMEs, in particular, the opportunities and prospects for dealing with these requirements of the digital age – and for setting their sights on the major potential for value creation and new business models.

Adding value with AI

The Car Repair 4.0 partners are taking a fundamentally novel approach: A new measurement method uses oscilloscopes to record errors in the engine compartment of a vehicle, and this data can be interpreted in a differentiated manner using an AI-supported process. The goal of Car Repair 4.0 is to create a platform for the trustworthy exchange of industry-specific data on vehicle maintenance and servicing with precisely fitting AI models. Your car repair shop can link up with others via this platform to form an innovation and value creation network!

Troubleshoot instead of replacing parts

Until now, data collection has mostly been carried out via proprietary manufacturer diagnostic systems using the on-board diagnostic (OBD) interface. The disadvantage of this method: It only displays error codes stored in the ECU, so-called Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC). As a result, only parts recommended by the system are replaced, but the real cause of an error is not determined. For you as a car repair shop owner, this means: unnecessary repairs and wasted resources. Car Repair 4.0 takes into account the sustainability of spare parts, more satisfied customers as well as the efficiency of your car repair shop!

Use these advantages

The Car Repair 4.0 solution with its measuring sensors, client software for the shop computer, and a cloud-based server structure in the Gaia-X data ecosystem is capable of streamlining processes and improving products and services along the value chain.

  • Differentiated fault diagnosis: less just-in-case parts replacement
  • Low-threshold deployment: fewer human and technical resources
  • Predictive maintenance: higher customer loyalty and fewer complaints
  • Individual service: for more customer satisfaction

Measurement Systems and Diagnostic Manufacturers

The development of automotive technology has been picking up speed rapidly for years. The advent of software-dominated vehicles with sensors and driving assistants, as well as the expansion of data networks, require changes in error diagnosis. Service staff in car repair shops have neither the necessary prior knowledge, nor do existing diagnostic systems and business models have the potential to keep pace with digitalisation. The Car Repair 4.0 project addresses all these challenges and offers measurement system and diagnostic manufacturers the opportunity to actively shape artificial intelligence (AI) in the car repair sector.
